With
NewsBoss Wires, data may be captured
from virtually any source, including more than 40 pre-configured news wire services
such as AP, Reuters, AFP, DPA, IRN, Xinhua, ABC, CBS, Metro Source, and Sports-Ticker
just to name a few. All standard industry data formats such as ANPA, IPTC and
NewsML (XML) are fully supported.
NewsBoss can accept wire data using all of the major delivery
methods such as satellite, serial, FTP, TCP/IP and direct file reading.
Automatic email ingest, including audio attachments, enables
reporters, stringers, foreign correspondents, and even the public to submit
news items directly into the newsroom system.
Integrated fax reception in NewsBoss
Wires automatically receives stories and press releases sent to the newsroom
by fax.
The NewsBoss Web Interface enables reporters in the field to
file stories, including audio clips, directly into NewsBoss. Using only a standard
web browser, reporters are able to contribute important breaking news in record
time from virtually any location.
NewsBoss has a fully integrated Web Browser, featuring tabbed
browser pages, pop-up blocking, and personal bookmarks. As well as support for
conventional drag and drop, a special one click function in the browser enables
highlighted text to be inserted into a new script ready for instant editing.
Fully integrated RSS support enables users to quickly subscribe
to RSS news feeds. Feeds are automatically updated by NewsBoss and displayed
just like scripts in the NewsBoss Web Browser.
Networks audio feeds are captured using the NewsBoss
AutoRecorder. The AutoRecorder is a schedule based, fully unattended audio
recording tool. It has many advanced features including support for the simultaneous
recording of multiple sources on a single PC and automatic rotation control.
Recordings may be initiated by time, contact closure, or audio level activation
(VOX). Unattended remote dial-in recording is also supported with an external
auto-answer telephone hybrid.
The NewsBoss Audio Editor
is used for all manual recording tasks in the newsroom, such as pre-recorded
wraps, phone interviews, 2-way radio, TV and other audio sources. Once recorded,
fast and precise audio editing enables users to quickly and easily prepare an
audio clip for use on air.
All data sources are stored in a central database, instantly
updated and available to all NewsBoss users at the same time. The NewsBoss database
enables highly flexible organization of all ingested data to suit all types
of newsroom workflow.
