NewsBoss System Requirements

Operating Systems
NewsBoss is designed for the Microsoft Windows family of operating systems. Although NewsBoss may be run on any of the currently supported Windows 32 bit operating systems, use of the more recent versions will provide more security and stability.

Workstations
Windows XP Professional or Windows Vista are recommended for all new systems. They are the most advanced and stable of the Windows operating system family and will be fully supported by Microsoft for many years to come.

Windows 2000 may be used where it is necessary to utilize existing hardware for a NewsBoss system. However, we highly recommend upgrading to Windows XP or Windows Vista if possible.

Windows 95, Windows 98SE and Windows NT4 are obsolete are no longer supported by Microsoft. NewsBoss is no longer supported for these operating systems. Windows XP and Windows Vista Home Editions are also not recommended as these are designed as consumer level operating systems.

Servers
For dedicated NewsBoss Servers, we recommend Windows XP Professional (small systems only), Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008.

Windows 2000 Server may be used on a server PC where it is necessary to utilize existing hardware. However we highly recommend upgrading to Windows Server 2003/2008 if possible.

Hardware
NewsBoss is designed to run on standard off the shelf PC hardware which ensures maximum configuration flexibility at an economical cost.

An indication of some of the basic system recommendations is shown below. However, it is impossible to list every possible configuration, so we highly recommend you contact your local NewsBoss Representative to assist with a design to meet your specific needs.

Networking
NewsBoss resources are shared via standard TCP/IP networking.

Local area networks (LANs) will normally employ twisted pair ethernet technology connecting workstations together via hubs and/or switched hubs. Although small systems of under 5 workstations can use 100BaseT networks, it is recommended that larger systems employ 1000BaseT networking in conjunction with switched hubs.

External communication can take place over a variety of TCP/IP connections, such as Wide Area Networks (WANs), Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), ISDN, DSL/ADSL, and dial up connections. Please contact your local NewsBoss Representative to discuss the options which most closely match your needs.
